Global Strategy and Organizational Behaviour

The GSOB cluster focuses on the global dimension of business management, with particular emphasis on ‘HRM’, ‘strategy’, and ‘organisational behaviour’, broadly defined. In an increasingly interconnected and interdependent world, research on ‘global’ issues that affect the business world is of great importance. At the same time, however, we are cognisant that there is a paradox at work, whereby in an increasingly ‘globalised’ world, the local context has become more, not less, significant. As firms and managers expand their reach across national borders, it is imperative to consider the various political, economic, social, cultural, and legal factors that make each market distinct in nature. As it is clear, the main concern of researches in this cluster is to link the academic knowledge to current and future practices in different sectors such as business, public and non-profit to respond to the emerging needs of the IR 4.0 era.

The Sustainability Accounting and Governance cluster at GSB, USM conducts and disseminates both fundamental and applied research in the areas of accounting, auditing, accountability, sustainability reporting, governance, performance, disclosure, and risk management. Through its research and effort, the cluster strives to promote relevant accounting for its impact on the academic literature, accounting practice, policymaking, securities regulation, and elsewhere.

Corporate Social Responsibility

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Research Cluster is the backbone of GSB in its quest for nurturing responsible business leaders. This cluster aims to create a positive social impact on the local community, business community, and society at large, through multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary research studies which connect socio-environmental-economic needs with business performance, which consequently are expected to improve the well-being of various stakeholders, As such, this cluster focuses on new frontiers in CSR, within the context of rebuilding society and preserving the environment that brings out innovation in systems of governance, application of new technologies, business operations, as well as, in ethical leadership. The research themes, henceforth, surrounds current transdisciplinary topics related to, but not limited to: sustainability science, sustainable cities and communities, management, and environment sustainability, social innovation through shared value creation, social enterprise business models, social entrepreneurship, operations/management practices within circular economy, corporate responsibility and social justice, and community-based entities/partnerships/organisations in stakeholder engagement.
